freaking awesome! I love Kiera Knightley's haircut. she really should keep the short hair. Christopher Walken is pretty cool too. I love this movie and everything about it. when I get home I am going to download the soundtrack. freaking awesome movie. 4.5 out of 5

Vacation back East

We have been in Nova Scotia for the past week on vacation. We started off the week with Trevor and Tamara's wedding, had a harbor cruise in memory of Uncle Clyde, then went to New Glasgow for a day, now we are back at the Burke Residence for the last night, flying home tomorrow. Right now, as I type this, the Burkes are in the process of murdering lobsters for our eating enjoyment. Lobster races are over, and now they all go into the pot. but first, they have to remove the elastic bands from the lobster claws before they cook 'em. I had to leave the room because I can't watch people with hands around un-banded lobster claws -- way too stressful for me. we've had 1 injury so far - Jonathan's girlfriend Jessie got pinched (it's bleeding), so it's a good thing I made tracks. now I have to stay away so I don't hear those things screaming from the pots.

Why AT&T sucks

I just got off the phone - waited an hour to get them to finally assure me that my account (which I closed in May) is now zeroed out. today I received another bill for service in the Dallas apartment that I moved out of May 20!! $150!!! they keep sending me bills and I keep calling them and explaining to them that I don't live in Texas anymore, and they always assure me that the account is closed and I won't get another bill, and then I get another bill! it's amazing and rediculous. for everyone out there -- do not EVER sign up for AT&T anything! always go with the competition. if you are currently a customer with AT&T -- it's too late for you. you can never escape!!

why AT&T and Direct TV suck

We moved from Texas to Washington in May. We keep getting bills from AT&T/Direct TV for a satellite television service that we cancelled months ago! yesterday we got a letter saying they are going to disconnect our service because we didn't pay our bill - they sent this to our new address -- in WASHINGTON! Now I just got off the phone with AT&T because they are conducting a servey about why I disconnected my service. but when I told them I disconnected because I moved to a new state, they said the servey doesn't apply to me and thank you for your time! I've called their customer service more times than I can count and keep getting the same answer -- when did you disconnect? well you shouldn't still get bills. I've taken care of that m'am. you shouldn't get any more bills now. then I get a bill! That is why AT&T and Direct TV suck.

Especially for Alex

Alex has made a special request for more pictures of Rocco, so this is especially for Alex, but the rest of you Rocco fans out there can enjoy them too. first some action shots:

My Review of 'Talladaga Nights'

So we went to the Crossroads theatre and as usual, Andrew always has to leave to go to the mens room as the previews are showing. So he asks me for the ticket stub so he can go to the rest-room and get back in. I handed him what was in my pocket. Thank goodness Crossroads is a very friendly and small theatre because I gave him the ticket stub for Nacho Libre. guess it's been a while since that jacket has been out of the closet! great movie. very funny. I love Sasha Cohen. 4 out of 5.

my Uncle Johnny - Superhero!

My uncle Johnny has been in the army since he was probably 18. He just retired. He served in lots of scary places and was a UN Peacekeeper in Cypress when I was a kid. He played the pipes at the NS Tattoo on several occasions. more recently he has been a music teacher at the ROTC in Ontario.
these are pictures of Johnny accepting all his many awards at the retirement party. I didn't post all the pictures. apparently he was very well accomplished, because the awards just kept coming!

I swear, he's not a robot.
They wrote a song in honor of Johnny, and here is one of his students playing for him (something they have never done for anyone before - we are very very proud!)
they also flew my Mom and Nanny (both wearing brown in this picture) in to be at the ceremony - and completely surprised him - he had no idea any of his family would be there, much less my Nan, who very rarely travels. Congrats Johnny - Superhero! now enjoy your retirement fishing at Eden Lake!!
