Happy Birthday Grace!
this weekend Grace turned 7. Instead of a party, she decided she wanted to go to the circus, so Karen had us over for brunch to celebrate on Sunday.
you have to love it when kids open presents.

my big splurge at the kitchen store last week - a new kitchenaid stand mixer. so I made cupcakes
they are chocolate devils food cake with cream cheese buttercream iceing.
Andrew likes them - I think they look better than they taste. I guess I'm just not a big chocolate cake fan. next time I think i'll add some raspberries or something like that...

downstairs bathroom
I don't have before pics of the downstairs bathroom, but just imagine a tiny bathroom where everything is white. the only bit of color in the entire room was the wood floors. I wanted to do something that flows with the rest of the downstairs.
Here's my inspiration board - the color palate, and some blue/white/brown rooms that I like a lot. The color is called Bayside, Behr paint, in flat finish.I pulled the color for the walls from the couch:
the blue pillow matches the wall color exactly (allthough they look quite different in the photos).
the bathroom as seen from the laundry room.
I did 2 wide stripes around the entire room in transparent glaze. the glaze stripes are subtle - you only notice them when the light hits them. This is a piece of fancy paper I got at a paper store in Bellevue. I framed it so it looks like art.
the storage thingy behind the toilet came with the house. it's very convenient, and you don't have to worry so much about getting the paint behind the toilet perfect if you put that thing up there.
I put in brown hand towels, then debated switching them out for white ones, but now seeing it in the photo I've decided that I like the brown, so they can stay.
